You're Never Too Old To Get
Bit By The Travel Bug! By Arlene Martell Travel is a funny thing. You really can't appreciate it unless you get the travel bug! For most people, once you start, you can't wait until the next trip.
Most people don't have the time freedom or make the kind of money it takes to just get on a plane and go. What has made the trips even more special is passing this travel gift on to our 4 kids. Believe me they have it. I asked Victoria and Adam a few questions about their travel experiences. It was interesting to get their take on some of the trips they have been on. The tropical places and theme parks are some of their favorites, but they bring up the fun they had on the cruise ship and the Caribbean islands the most. They enjoyed the freedom to roam the ship and hang out with kids their age. They loved the 24 hour buffet and having the freedom to run off without a parent, and have private rooms. The kids have traveled far and wide. Traveling so many times has given them a confidence to continue traveling without James and I. They are comfortable in airports and negotiating their way around. We sent Justin off on trips to Florida and Washington DC for teen leadership conferences by himself at age 14.
Shelby has been to Costa Rica and even Victoria who just turned 14 is comfortable flying to Ottawa with a friend and a few years ago went to Destination Imagination Competition in Tennessee. This is a remarkable gift to give them. We think nothing of pulling them out of school for one to three weeks. The life experience they get is so beneficial. I asked Victoria if she enjoyed trips and did she think she would continue to travel as an adult. She absolutely said "Yes" and commented she liked to see new places that were different from the usual life at home. She said she is going to go to Africa and Greece and places that are hot and beautiful. When I asked her how often she would like to travel she said she would find a way to work so she could go on 5 big trips a year. She has a lot more vision than I ever had at her age because she has been given these opportunities to explore her world. Bring the Family to an Affiliate Conference We do it! Plan to spend a few extra days before the conference or after, bring the family and make it a vacation. Pack your laptop and do a bit of work each day! As affiliate marketers, we all have lots of conferences to choose from, so make the most of your time there and plan some daytrips. Conferences are usually in popular cities and typically only 2 or 3 days. A perfect opportunity to blend work and family time. We have met MANY wonderful families this way!
We have open invitations to visit them and visa versa. We look forward to booking an overseas trip with these friends who are like family. Recently we hosted a week long visit with Ed Keay-Smith, his wife Lois and daughter Sasha, aka the Laptop Nomads who arrived from Australia. We had a blast together and loved our time together. We met Ed at CJU about 5 years ago and became good friends. Young or older, dig out your passport, pack up your laptop, get bit by the bug and you will see, it is not just a business, it becomes a lifestyle with good friends, great places to go and memories to last a lifetime! Bon voyage,
